22nd Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep 09/18/2010

Beach Sweep/River Sweep is South Carolina's largest one-day volunteer cleanup event of its kind. Every 3rd Saturday in September, from 9am to 12pm, thousands of South Carolinians clear beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes, and swamps of aquatic debris. The cleanup is organized by the SC Sea Grant Consortium and SC Department of Natural Resources and has taken place annually since 1988. Once the Sweep is over, the Ocean Conservancy tallies all of the debris data. The data helps us to learn the source of aquatic debris and litter dangerous to sea life and help stop the pollution before it starts. If you would like to volunteer for Isle of Palm's BEACH SWEEP, contact: Stacey Johnson (843) 886-0687. staceysusanne@yahoo.com
